How a Newsletter Sponsorship Earned Equals 13,000 Impressions and Clicks That Kept Coming for Two and a Half Years
Equals sponsored my newsletter around the Product Hunt launch of Dashboards by Equals. Sent to a list of about 6,000 subscribers, the sponsorship delivered ~13,000 impressions and 101 clicks, and the issues archived on data-mania.com kept sending verified human clicks to Equals until June 2026.

A Sponsor Placement Usually Stops Earning the Day After It Sends
Most newsletter sponsorships have a short life. The issue lands, the sponsor gets a burst of opens and clicks, and then the placement disappears into an inbox archive nobody revisits.
Equals had a sharper version of that problem. It was launching Dashboards, a business intelligence layer on top of its spreadsheet, on Product Hunt, where a launch gets roughly 24 hours to collect attention. It needed analysts, data scientists, and operators to show up on the day. And it needed them to trust the recommendation, because that audience scrolls past hype.
The goals we agreed on were straightforward:
- Build brand awareness for Equals
- Drive people to the launch
- Increase overall launch engagement
- Acquire new users
Two Newsletter Sends Built Interest First and Then Converted It on Launch Day
Every send in the sponsorship had the same three parts:
- A full newsletter issue to my list of about 6,000 subscribers, written as a story rather than an ad.
- The same issue published on data-mania.com, where it stays live and indexed long after the email has been read.
- A LinkedIn post sharing the issue with my LinkedIn audience. That’s the standard amplification every sponsor gets.
Equals also added one extra standalone LinkedIn post per send on top of the standard package.
Send 1 Gave My Readers a Reason to Care Before Launch Day (October 19-20)
The first issue was built from a coffee chat with Equals’ cofounder and CEO, Bobby Pinero, about running Excel, SQL, Python, and more from inside one spreadsheet. On data-mania.com it went live as a practical piece on conversion rate tracking, so readers got something useful to do with the product instead of just a pitch.
Send 2 Turned That Interest Into Launch-Day Clicks (October 24)
The second issue (“It’s party day”) went out the morning Dashboards went live, pointing readers straight to the Product Hunt listing. Its website version, a post on the Equals spreadsheet, linked to the new Dashboards page. I tracked both destinations with Linkly, which separates real human clicks from bots and link previews.
The Clicks Were Real People, and Nearly Half Came After the Launch Was Over
My follow-up report to Equals counted ~13,000 impressions and 101 clicks across both sends.
The Linkly data backs that 101 up. Once bots and social-media link previews are filtered out, the human-only count to the Product Hunt listing lands right in that range:
| Link | Launch day | First 7 days | First 30 days | All time (human) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Product Hunt listing | 67 | 92 | 96 | 130 |
| Equals Dashboards page | 0 | 0 | 1 | 42 |
Here’s what that data shows about a newsletter placement that lives on a website:
- The launch got its burst when it needed one. Seven out of ten first-month human clicks to Product Hunt came on launch day itself.
- Then the archive kept working. Of 172 verified human clicks across both links, 75 (44%) came after the first month. Almost every click to the Equals Dashboards page (41 of 42) arrived after the launch window, and data-mania.com was the only named site referring them.
- The clicks didn’t stop for years. The most recent human click came in June 2026, more than two and a half years after the last send.
- The audience matched the buyer. The US sent more clicks than any other country (215 of 393 total), followed by the UK, France, and Canada.
The launch itself finished #1 Product of the Day with 1,176 upvotes and #2 Product of the Week. That ranking was the combined result of every creator Equals worked with, not my sponsorship alone.
The Same Placement Now Reaches a List More Than 16 Times Bigger
Equals bought this placement when my list had about 6,000 subscribers. Today the same sponsorship runs across my newsletter portfolio, with over 100,000 subscribers, and every issue still gets published on data-mania.com, so sponsors get both the send-day burst and the long tail.
Equals Called the Creator Group a Big Part of the #1 Finish
“We’re currently No. 1 on Product Hunt… in large part thanks to all of you. Thank you all so much for making this day a smashing success. We’re looking forward to a continued partnership!”
This message went to the full group of launch creators, not to me individually.
