This book nicely describes how this new field differs from the “old sciences”. The intellectual basis is at a readable level for even the newest of new dummy looking for clues English continues to spawn new words and fields of study, the dummies series and this title does not disappoint once again in providing a readable description of what is an emerging field.

(This book) by Lillian Pierson is a 364-page educational book that is well-formatted, and Pierson’s use of charts, graphs, and pictures helps the reader further understand the material. The book certainly covers a wide variety of topics. The variety of subject matters covered in the book makes the text fun and interesting to read. I believe that an introductory guide to a subject should follow two almost paradoxical rules: it should be easy enough for a beginner to understand, but also contain enough rich and engaging information for the beginner to truly learn something about the subject and set a good foundation for additional studies on that subject. Fortunately, (this book) follows both of those rules; the content is easy for a beginner to jump into, but the book is also thorough enough to really educate the reader about data science.

I enjoyed this book. It’s a great overview of a topic that covers a broad range of disciplines. The author puts emphasis on topics and skills that analysts, scientists, engineers, computer scientists, and data visualization experts use daily. This is a good starting place. Keep in mind this is a Dummy book, so the topics are merely touched on. You’ll have to find other sources for a more in-depth study, but at least you’ll have a better idea of what you’re looking for after reading this.

Sorts out the high-level topics and allows understanding to decide if you want to jump into this field.

Great book! I made my staff read it as well and they also commented on the clarity and comprehensiveness of the book. Somehow it feels superior to any other “For Dummies” book I’ve ever read. Pro Tip: follow the author on Twitter. She’s super knowledgeable and tweets great stuff. Overall: I recommend this book to anyone.

Excellent introductory book! It provides an overview of the subject, without deviating from the initial training of technical skills. He helped me get started.

Nice introduction.. Well organized, easy to understand, covers the basics. Not the definitive source for this topic, but a fine introduction for the novice.
